When Green Doesn't Fit

From it's outset, this blog has always been about my journey to make a positive, healthy impact on my life.  Every time I switch a product or a way of doing thins, I carefully weigh it with what fits into our budget and lifestyle.  Sometimes, that leaves me with better, but still middle-of-the-road decisions.  I'm okay with that.  I never set out to be the ideal greenie, and I never will be.  I set out to make a change.  Sometimes, though, for better or worse, there is no middle road.

This week, I found an item I just can't compromise on: Anti-perspirant.  I switched from my bulk-bought dove antiperspirant/deodorant (whose supply had finally run out), to Toms of Maine Apricot Deodorant.  FWIW, it really does smell great and I never felt stinky, but I just can't live with underam moisture.  I'm not even gonna wait it out and finish the stick.

I'm totally aware that aluminum in antiperspirant has been linked to alzheimers and even cancer, but there are very few options out there.  I only found one aluminum-free antiperspirant, and it was $25 for a 45 day supply.  That, my friends, does not fit into my budget.

Tomorrow is grocery day, and I'm going back to the old stuff.  It may not be the perfect choice, but it's the right one for me.

  1. I've had a few friends indicate that the hungarian rock crystal works well for them. I haven't had the inclination to try it - something about having to wait for my underarms to dry after applying doesn't work for my rush to get out the door in the morning.

  2. Thanks for sharing this, because I was planning to replace my usual Dove with something more natural next time. We' see how it goes for me...
